MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Detroit Tigers right-hander Jeremy Bonderman has been scheduled for his first rehab start.
Bonderman is expected to pitch for the Class A West Michigan on Saturday. He hasn’t appeared in the majors in nearly a year, due to a circulation problem in his throwing shoulder that required surgery. Bonderman won 50 games over four seasons, but the injury limited him to 12 starts last year.
Detroit announced Bonderman’s first rehab start before Wednesday night’s game at Minnesota. Manager Jim Leyland wouldn’t put a number on how many starts Bonderman needs on his assignment in the minors before he’s activated. He’s been pitching in extended spring training.
