PHOENIX (AP) -Gerardo Parra has homered in his first major league at-bat for the Arizona Diamondbacks, becoming the 100th player to accomplish the feat, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
The left-handed hitting Parra, a 21-year-old Venezuelan called up from Double-A Mobile, drove a 1-1 pitch from Cincinnati’s Johnny Cueto in the first inning 379 feet into the right-field seats Wednesday night.
Parra is the second rookie to go deep in his first big league at-bat this year. Atlanta center fielder Jordan Schafer homered his first time up in the season opener April 5 at Philadelphia.
Parra is the second Arizona player to connect in his first career at-bat. Alex Cabrera did it on June 26, 2000, against Houston.
