SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -The San Jose City Council has approved a set of principles to guide any negotiations to bring a baseball team to the city.
First and foremost on the list approved Tuesday is that a stadium be privately built and make the city money.
Mayor Chuck Reed acknowledges the city doesn’t have any team to negotiate with because under Major League Baseball rules, Santa Clara County is part of the San Francisco Giants’ territory.
Reed says the latest action was done to put the city in the best possible position if baseball officials allowed the Oakland Athletics or another team to move to the city.
The A’s recently scrapped plans for a stadium in Fremont.
