SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman has extended his hitting streak to 29 games with a first-inning single off the San Francisco Giants’ Randy Johnson.
Zimmerman’s sharp single to center Monday night extended the longest streak in the Nationals’ brief history. The third baseman is 45-for-122 during the streak, the longest in the majors this season.
His streak is the longest by a third baseman in a quarter-century, surpassing Wade Boggs’ 28-game streak in 1985. He’s also one game shy of the majors’ first 30-game hitting streak since Moises Alou did it in late 2007.
