CLEVELAND (AP) -The Cleveland Indians added veteran outfielder Jason Tyner to their roster Sunday and optioned right-handed pitcher Tom Mastny to Triple-A Buffalo.
Tyner, signed to a minor-league contract in February, hit .234 (22-for-94) with one home run and seven RBIs in 31 games at Buffalo. He batted .370 (10-for-27) over his last eight games.
In parts of seven seasons in the major leagues, Tyner has a .275 average with one homer, 94 RBIs and 61 stolen bases. A first-round draft choice of the New York Mets in 1994, the 31-year-old left-handed hitter made his big-league debut with them in 2000, but after only 13 games was traded to Tampa Bay. He played the last three seasons with the Minnesota Twins.
Mastny, called up from Buffalo on April 15, appeared in only two games, allowing two hits and one earned run in 1 2-3 innings. He spent the entire 2007 season with Cleveland, going 7-2 with a 4.68 ERA in 51 appearances.
