BOSTON (AP) -The Boston Red Sox optioned right-hander Devern Hansack to Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday and called up lefty reliever Javier Lopez.
The Red Sox made the moves before their game against Orioles.
Lopez pitched three scoreless innings in four appearances with Boston before being optioned to Pawtucket on April 9.
In his only game for Boston, Hansack walked three and allowed an earned run while getting two outs in Tuesday's 9-2 win over Toronto.
Hansack, recalled from Pawtucket on May 3, will start for the Triple-A team on Saturday.
``We had a chance of maybe doing him more harm then good to have him sit around,'' Boston manager Terry Francona said.
