WASHINGTON (AP) -The Marlins put rookie reliever Henry Owens on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of tendinitis in his right rotator cuff, the latest Florida pitcher to be sidelined.
Five other Marlins pitchers are out with by injuries, including starters Josh Johnson and Anibal Sanchez.
Owens’ move was retroactive to Wednesday. Outfielder John Gall was selected from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Owens, who became the Marlins’ closer after newcomer Jorge Julio lost the job, was 2-0 with four saves in five chances. He had a 1.96 ERA in 17 games.
Entering a weekend series at Washington, the Florida bullpen had blown six saves and ranked first in the majors with 130 innings.
