CLEVELAND (AP) -Looking for help for their beleaguered bullpen, the Cleveland Indians gave a tryout to free agent right-hander Luis Vizcaino.
The 34-year-old threw a bullpen session in Cleveland on Friday.
“We worked him out today, but I want to talk with (pitching coach) Carl Willis about it,” manager Eric Wedge said before the Indians opened a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers.
The Indians have converted only seven of 14 save chances this season. Cleveland relievers entered play Friday night with a record of 4-7 and a 6.65 ERA, second-worst in the AL. They had allowed 20 home runs, most by any bullpen in the majors.
Vizcaino, designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs on April 23 and later released, has a career record of 34-27 with seven saves and a 4.31 ERA in 532 games for seven teams since 1999.
