PITTSBURGH (AP) -Right-hander Brad Hennessey was optioned by the San Francisco Giants to Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday and replaced by right-hander Billy Sadler.
The 26-year-old Sadler, who pitched in five games with San Francisco in 2006, was 0-0 with a 1.13 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 16 innings at Fresno.
Hennessey, 28, was 4-5 with a 3.42 ERA in 69 games with San Francisco in 2007, but never got untracked this season while going 1-1 with 23 earned runs and 38 hits allowed in 16 innings. He gave up four extra-base hits, including Nate McLouth’s homer, in 2 1-3 innings during a 12-6 loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday night in which his ERA climbed to 12.94.
