NEW YORK (AP) -Yankees center fielder Johnny Damon wasn't in the starting lineup Saturday against the Seattle Mariners after he cramped up during his last at-bat in the series opener.
Damon popped out in the ninth inning of the Yankees' 15-11 loss Friday night and pulled up running out of the batter's box. His right calf cramped up and Yankees manager Joe Torre opted to leave him out of the lineup.
``I just decided since he did it late in the game last night that I'd rather not start with him and if I need him later I'll use him,'' Torre said.
Damon missed some time earlier this season with a mild strain in his right calf that he originally thought was a cramp.
``I stretched a lot after that and that didn't help it,'' Damon said, ``so I'm not stretching it now.''
Melky Cabrera replaced Damon in center field and at the top of the lineup.
