DENVER (AP) – Colorado Rockies closer Adam Ottavino is concerned he will need Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.
Ottavino said a recent MRI revealed a partial ulnar collateral ligament tear. He will visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday for an evaluation and could have the operation ”right then and there,” the pitcher said.
The 29-year-old Ottavino went on the disabled list April 27 with right triceps inflammation, soon after he was promoted to closer. Ottavino hasn’t given up a run in 10 1-3 innings this season. He says he felt as though he was ”in the best spot I’ve ever been in on the mound.”
John Axford steps into the ninth-inning role for the Rockies.
