ST. LOUIS (AP) -Cole Hamels ran in the outfield to test his injured left ankle a day after the Philadelphia Phillies bumped him from Tuesday’s scheduled start, and manager Charlie Manuel said the left-hander was on track to start Friday at Atlanta.
Hamels, 0-2 with a 7.27 ERA, was hurt on April 28 trying to field a bunt. Brett Myers took Hamels’ spot on Tuesday in St. Louis.
Hamels, the World Series and NLCS MVP, has been dogged by injuries in the early season. His first start was pushed back due to minor elbow problems and had to leave a start against the Brewers on April 23 after being struck in the shoulder by a line drive.
