ATLANTA (AP) -Joe Simpson was expected to make a quick return to the Atlanta Braves broadcast booth after having emergency surgery Sunday.
Simpson, part of the Fox Sports Net South broadcast team, missed the Braves-Reds game Sunday after having an appendectomy.
Ron Gant filled in for Simpson as Jon Sciambi's partner in the broadcast booth.
Simpson, in his 17th season as a Braves broadcaster, may return as early as Tuesday, according to another member of the broadcast team, Skip Carey.
``I talked with his wife and he's doing fine,'' Carey said, adding the surgery lasted only about 10 minutes.
The Braves will be off Monday before opening a home series against San Diego on Tuesday.
