DENVER (AP) -The Colorado Rockies added right-hander Jason Grilli to their 25-man roster before their game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
Grilli was acquired Wednesday from Detroit for minor league right-hander Zach Simons. The 31-year-old was 0-1 with a 3.29 ERA in nine games with the Tigers this season.
Grilli hasn’t allowed a run in his last six outings, a span of 11 1-3 innings.
“He is versatile, he can give us length and is not just a right-on-right guy,” Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said. “He is a little bit of a horse out there and he likes to take the ball.”
To make room on the 25-man roster, the Rockies designated right-hander Jose Capellan for assignment.
