ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -New York Yankees center fielder Johnny Damon, bothered by recent back troubles, didn’t start Tuesday night against Texas but expects to return to the lineup this week.
Damon had flown to Florida on Sunday for several sessions with his chiropractor. He said he felt better but that manager Joe Torre wanted to sit him as a precaution.
“I’m feeling great,” said Damon, who expects to play Wednesday. “I’m ready to get going and help improve on this bad April that we’ve had.”
Damon is batting .229 and suffering through a 4-for-32 slump, but he downplayed the injury’s effect on his hitting.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Damon’s back pain helped convince him to make a chiropractor available to all players during homestands at Yankee Stadium.
