BOSTON (AP) -The Oakland Athletics placed Bobby Kielty on the disabled list with a strained left calf on Tuesday, their fourth outfielder to go on that list. They recalled catcher Adam Melhuse from Triple-A Sacramento.
Kielty joins Mark Kotsay, Milton Bradley and Chris Denorfia on the list. Outfielder Nick Swisher also is sidelined but may return Friday night. In nine games this season, Kielty is batting .174 with no homers and three RBIs.
Melhuse played three games with Oakland earlier this season, going 1-for-6 before going to Sacramento, where he was 3-for-8.
