NEW YORK (AP) -The older brother of New York Yankees manager Joe Torre was recovering Tuesday afternoon after kidney transplant surgery with an organ donated by his daughter.
New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia said in a statement that 75-year-old Frank Torre was “out of surgery and doing well.” The hospital said it was not releasing any further information on Torre, who underwent a heart transplant 11 years ago.
Like his brother, Frank Torre was a major league baseball player, spending seven seasons with the Milwaukee Braves and Philadelphia Phillies from 1956-63. His heart transplant came during the 1996 World Series, won by the Yankees over the Atlanta Braves.
Frank Torre, who played in two World Series with the Braves, watched the ’96 Series from his hospital bed.
