CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Yasiel Puig faces charges of reckless driving, speeding and driving without proof of insurance in Tennessee after police say he went “almost double” the speed limit early Sunday.
Sgt. Daniel Jones of the Chattanooga Police Department says Puig was serving as a designated driver when he got arrested at 1 a.m. Jones says the report didn’t indicate exactly how fast Puig was going but that it was nearly twice the speed limit.
Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti has said in a statement that the team takes Puig’s arrest seriously and will handle discipline internally.
Puig, a 22-year-old Cuban defector, is hitting .333 with three homers in 13 games for the Dodgers’ Double-A affiliate in Chattanooga. Puig signed a seven-year, $42 million contract last summer.
