A look at what’s happening all around the major leagues Tuesday:
—
AWAITING WORD
The White Sox and Orioles will find out whether their game scheduled for Camden Yards is being played in Baltimore or somewhere else, perhaps Nationals Park in Washington. Monday night’s game was postponed because of safety concerns after rioting broke out near the stadium following the funeral of Freddie Gray. He died April 19 after suffering a severe spinal injury in police custody.
NOT SO BRAWNY
Slumping Brewers slugger Ryan Braun could return to the lineup at Cincinnati. He hasn’t started for two games, and was sore on his right side earlier this year. Manager Ron Roenicke said Braun was healthy enough to play, but wanted to rest him. The former NL MVP has only one homer and four RBIs so far.
STARTING UP
Josh Hamilton reports to the Texas Rangers’ spring training complex in Surprise, Arizona. The former AL MVP was traded to Texas on Monday after two troubled years with the Angels. He’s recovering from surgery on his right shoulder, and the Rangers expect him to be activated during the second half of May.
SPOT STARTERS
Rafael Montero of the Mets and Chase Whitley of the Yankees are being brought up from the minors to make spot starts. Montero pitches in Miami and Whitley faces Tampa Bay in the Bronx. They’ll give other starters in their rotations – Bartolo Colon and Matt Harvey for the Mets, Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda for the Yanks – an extra day of rest.
GOOD TO GO
Trevor Bauer is set to pitch for Cleveland vs. the visiting Royals. He was unable to make his last start because of food poisoning.
