SAN DIEGO (AP) -Catcher Josh Bard was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday and was in the starting lineup for the San Diego Padres' series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
To make room on the roster, infielder Russell Branyan was placed on the bereavement list following the death of his father-in-law.
Bard went on the DL on April 12 with a strained groin. He is batting .286 with four RBIs.
He played in three extended spring training games in Peoria, Ariz.
Branyan is hitting .292 with one homer and four RBIs.
