ST. LOUIS (AP) -The Cardinals demoted fill-in starter Randy Keisler to Triple-A on Friday, a day after the left-hander lasted only 3 1-3 innings in his latest outing.
Keisler, 0-0 with a 5.65 ERA in three starts, was optioned to Memphis. St. Louis purchased the contract of righty reliever Kelvin Jimenez from Memphis.
Keisler pitched in place of ace Chris Carpenter, on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow injury. Keisler gave up four runs and six hits in the Cardinals’ come-from-behind 7-5 victory over the Reds on Thursday.
