NEW YORK (AP) – Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova left his start against Toronto after allowing single to the second batter of the third inning.
Nova followed catcher Francisco Cervelli to the trainer’s room Friday night. Cervelli was hit on the hand by Davis’ foul tip only five pitches into the game.
After allowing a ground single up the middle to Davis, trainer Steve Donohue and manager Joe Girardi ran out to the mound, and Nova walked off without hesitation. There was no word on his injury.
Nova gave up two runs and four hits in two-plus innings.
Cervelli was holding his throwing hand just above his knee when Davis fouled a pitch straight back. There was no immediate update on Cervelli, but Triple-A catcher Austin Romine was lifted from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s game after one at-bat.
