SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -San Francisco starter Kevin Correia left his start Saturday night against the Cincinnati Reds in the first inning with a strained muscle in his left side.
Correia threw a high 1-1 pitch to Ken Griffey Jr. with one out in the first and Jeff Keppinger aboard on a single when the right-hander felt something and braced his glove arm against his side. Athletic trainer Dave Groeschner, pitching coach Dave Righetti and manager Bruce Bochy rushed to the mound and checked on the pitcher, who walked off the mound to the dugout moments later.
Correia began his fifth start of the season with a 1-3 record. Brad Hennessey replaced him.
