 PITTSBURGH (AP) -Ryan Doumit was recalled by the Pittsburgh Pirates from Triple-A Indianapolis and was in their starting lineup Thursday after catcher Humberto Cota injured his left shoulder warming up pitchers the night before.
Doumit, who can catch, play first base and the outfield, was leading the International League with a .415 average and 20 RBIs. Doumit began the season with the Pirates, but was hitless in three at-bats before being sent down when second baseman Freddy Sanchez was activated off the disabled list.
Doumit is a .235 career hitter in 140 games with Pittsburgh the last three seasons.
