ATLANTA (AP) -The Braves’ battered pitching staff got more bad news Thursday when Lance Cormier was scratched from a scheduled rehab appearance after experiencing pain in his ailing right arm.
Cormier has been on the disabled list since March 31 with a strained triceps. He was scheduled to start for Triple-A Richmond on Friday, but noticed some discomfort after his last throwing session on Tuesday while traveling with the Braves.
He was returning to Atlanta to be examined by the team’s lead orthopedist, Dr. Xavier Duralde.
The Braves have already lost Mike Hampton to season-ending surgery. Reliever Chad Paronto is on the disabled list and another reliever, Mike Gonzalez, is out for a few days with a tender elbow.
The 26-year-old Cormier was competing for a spot in the Braves’ rotation when he began having problems late in spring training. He went 4-5 with a 4.89 ERA last season, making nine starts and pitching in 29 games overall for Atlanta.
