CHICAGO (AP) – The home of the Chicago Cubs will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its first game with a home game against Arizona on Wednesday.
Wrigley Field has been the scene of some of baseball’s most memorable plays, from Babe Ruth’s apparent called home run to the home run duel between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. The ballpark opened as Weeghman Park April 23, 1914.
The Cubs want to add a giant video scoreboard, raising concerns among purists who worry it will change the atmosphere at a ballpark that didn’t add lights for night games until a quarter-century ago.
But Wrigley was among the first major league stadiums to offer Wi-Fi.
