SEATTLE (AP) -Mariners closer J.J. Putz was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.
Seattle manager John McLaren also said that starter Erik Bedard had a strong bullpen session on Tuesday and will return to the Mariners’ rotation on Saturday against Oakland.
Putz pitched in the first two games of the season, then was sidelined because of an inflammation in his rib cage. He missed 18 games.
Right-hander R.A. Dickey was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma to make room for Putz.
Bedard was placed on the disabled list April 15, retroactive to April 9, with inflammation in his left hip. He is eligible to come off the disabled list Thursday, but McLaren wants to split up his left-handers in the rotation and is holding off on using Bedard until Saturday.
