PITTSBURGH (AP) -Florida Marlins starting pitcher Andrew Miller went on the 15-day disabled list with an oblique injury after giving up four runs and five hits in 4 2-3 innings during an 8-0 loss in Pittsburgh on Monday night.
The Marlins will recall a pitcher Tuesday to replace the left-handed Miller (0-1), who has a 6.94 ERA in four games.
Miller developed the problem during a relief appearance April 11 against the Mets, but felt the injury was improving until Monday night. Against the Pirates, a pitcher who usually throws in the 91-to-93 miles per hour range topped out at 87 mph.
“It’s a little thing that hasn’t gotten any better,” manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “His arm’s great and, instead of putting him in a situation where he’s going to hurt his arm, we’re better off backing him off for 15 days.”
Miller was 6-10 with a 5.87 ERA in 29 games last season, including 20 starts.
