BOSTON (AP) – Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez has been ejected after hitting Boston slugger Pablo Sandoval with a pitch in the fourth inning.
Jimenez was thrown out by plate umpire Jordan Baker after he hit Sandoval behind the right shoulder with the first pitch after retiring the first two batters.
Jimenez allowed no hits and walked three before leaving with Baltimore leading 1-0 on Friday night. He was replaced by Kevin Gausman.
In the second inning, Sandoval upended second baseman Jonathan Schoop with a hard slide on a forceout. Sandoval missed Boston’s previous game Wednesday one day after bruising his left foot when he was hit by a pitch.
In his other start this year, Jimenez allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings in a 7-1 win over Toronto.
