A look at what’s happening all around the major leagues Saturday:
—
TRY AGAIN
Prized power prospect Kris Bryant takes another swing at getting his first hit in the majors. The Cubs rookie went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts in his big league debut Friday. Chicago faces Tyson Ross and the Padres at Wrigley Field. ”I’ll keep on keeping on and come out here tomorrow ready to go,” Bryant said.
RINGS AND THINGS
The Giants will get their World Series rings before hosting Arizona at AT&T Park. Travis Ishikawa, who hit the home run that clinched the NL Championship Series, will be in uniform for the ceremonies. He’s been rehabbing a back injury and will skip a road trip for Triple-A Sacramento. ”It will be good to have him here,” manager Bruce Bochy said.
QUICK K
Watch early as Mets NL Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom faces the Marlins for the first time since he struck out a record-tying eight straight batters to start the game Sept. 15 vs. Miami.
BOUNCE BACK?
Jordan Zimmermann finished fifth in the NL Cy Young voting last season, but the Washington ace began this year with a pedestrian performance. Tagged for eight runs in 2 1-3 innings at Boston in his first start, he’ll face the Phillies.
