ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Third baseman Alex Gordon could be out of Kansas City’s lineup for half the season after having surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip.
The surgery was performed Friday in Colorado, and Royals manager Trey Hillman said the recovery time is 10 to 12 weeks.
Mark Teahen was in the starting lineup for the opener of the Royals’ weekend series at Texas.
Hillman says Teahen, the first Royals player since 1991 to appear at four different positions the first six games of the season, will now play third a majority of the time.
Teahen started his fourth game in right field Wednesday.
