MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Minnesota’s Jason Kubel hit for the cycle with a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning against Angels reliever Jason Bulger on Friday night.
Kubel singled, doubled and tripled in his first three at-bats before striking out in the seventh. He hit an 0-1 pitch from Bulger into the upper deck above right field to give the Twins an 11-9 lead.
Kubel’s cycle was the ninth in Twins history. Carlos Gomez accomplished the feat last year.
He is the third player to hit for the cycle this season following Dodgers second baseman Orlando Hudson and Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler.
Normally the designated hitter, this was Kubel’s first game of the season in left field.
