CINCINNATI (AP) -Shortstop Alex Gonzalez returned to the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday and was reinstated off the bereavement list.
The Reds designated infielder Enrique Cruz for assignment. Cruz was called up to fill in after Gonzalez left for Venezuela last Thursday because his infant son was ill. Cruz got one at-bat and made one error during his short stint.
The Reds also sent right-handed reliever Jared Burton to Triple-A Louisville on a rehabilitation assignment. Burton strained his left hamstring while running in the outfield on April 7, and was placed on the 15-day disabled list a day later.
