ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -Jered Weaver came off the disabled list and was scheduled to start for the Los Angeles Angels at Oakland on Tuesday night.
Greg Jones was designated for assignment to make room on the roster for Weaver.
Weaver, coming off an impressive rookie season last year, was placed on the 15-day DL on March 31, retroactive to March 23, because of biceps tendinitis.
He did not pitch in a game for the Angels this spring, then was 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA in two starts spanning 11 innings for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga.
The right-handed Weaver, selected by the Angels with the 12th pick in the 2004 draft, won his first nine major league decisions and finished last season with an 11-2 record and 2.56 ERA in 19 starts.
Jones, a right-handed reliever, was 0-0 with a 15.00 ERA in two appearances with Los Angeles this year. He was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake last Friday after the Angels’ Kelvim Escobar went on the 15-day DL.
