ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -Yankees right fielder Xavier Nady will have an MRI exam on his right elbow Wednesday after feeling a sharp pain while making a throw in Tuesday night’s 7-2 win over Tampa Bay.
Nady, who had elbow ligament replacement surgery on Sept. 29, 2001, experienced the pain making a throw to the infield after Carlos Pena’s single in the seventh. He left the game after the inning was completed.
“I’m kind of nervous,” Nady said. “It’s just frustrating. It’s been feeling good for a while. It was pretty painful. The way I felt tonight, I had to say something. I’ll know a lot more (Wednesday).”
New York manager Joe Girardi said the team won’t consider any potential roster moves until receiving the MRI results.
“I think whenever you have a sharp pain like that it’s scary,” Girardi said.
Also, Yankees left fielder Johnny Damon said his mother, who was hospitalized Saturday in Florida with a lung problem, was released on Tuesday.
Damon, battling a bad cold, hopes to play Wednesday after sitting out Tuesday’s game.
