NEW YORK (AP) -New York’s top federal law enforcement officer says the new Yankee Stadium is one of the more accessible sporting venues in the nation for those with disabilities.
A decade ago, the federal government joined a lawsuit against the team and New York City claiming that wheelchair users were given seats with restricted views and had to buy tickets in pricey sections of the stadium. The lawsuit was settled.
On Tuesday, acting U.S. Attorney Lev Dassin had nothing but praise for the Yankees, saying they consulted with the federal government during construction.
Dassin took a tour of the stadium with Yankee officials and showed off the 506 wheelchair spaces. The new ballpark officially opens Thursday when the Yankees play Cleveland.
