ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Los Angeles Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick is expected to miss at least a couple of games with a strained left hamstring.
Kendrick wasn’t in the starting lineup Monday night at Texas after getting hurt in the seventh inning of Sunday’s 10-5 victory at Seattle. He is batting .500 (18-for-36) and has six hits in his last eight at-bats.
Kendrick returned to the lineup Sunday after missing three games with a jammed left thumb. Now, he’ll probably sit out the two-game series against the Rangers.
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Kendrick’s condition will be monitored over the next few days before a decision is made on whether to put him on the disabled list.
“We’re going to give it a day or two to read it,” Scioscia said. “With hamstrings you have to be cautious. We don’t want him to come back too quick and we don’t want to put him on the DL too quickly. Hopefully he’ll be back out there in a reasonable amount of time.”
Maicer Izturis started at second base Monday night for Los Angeles.
In other injury news, the Angels had center fielder Torii Hunter back in the lineup after he missed Sunday’s game with a sore left big toe.
