Paronto hobbled off the field Friday night during the seventh inning of an 11-4 loss to Florida. He strained a muscle near his groin while throwing a pitch.
McBride, who was expected to serve in a setup role out of the bullpen, walked 11 batters in his first three innings of work. He was sent to Triple-A Richmond to work on his mechanics.
Atlanta recalled right-hander Peter Moylan and lefty Steve Colyer to fill the openings on their 12-man staff.
McBride had no complaints about his demotion.
``I didn't throw the ball like I needed to,'' he said. ``I need to go and fix things. In spring training, I came out firing and I haven't done it here. I need to go to Richmond and straighten things out.''
McBride said it's just a matter of adjusting his footwork so he can throw across his body.
``It's something very simple, but it's tough to work on it here when you're trying to win,'' he said.
The 24-year-old McBride went 4-1 with a 3.65 ERA last season. He had some control problems - 32 walks in 56 2-3 innings - but nothing like the start to this year.
``I think I'll be all right,'' he said. ``I'm going to go fix it and I'll be back.''
