KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -The Indians plan to recall left-hander Aaron Laffey from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday to start against the Kansas City Royals.
Laffey was 5-7 with a 4.23 ERA in 16 starts last season with Cleveland. In his only 2008 start against the Royals, he allowed one unearned run and four hits in seven innings, but took the loss.
Laffey, who turns 24 on Wednesday, will replace left-hander Scott Lewis in the rotation. Lewis went on the 15-day disabled list Saturday after one start with a strained left elbow and is expected to be out two to four weeks.
Laffey made one start for Columbus and was 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks in 3 1-3 innings.
