MILWAUKEE (AP) -Cubs catcher Geovany Soto was out of Friday’s game with the Milwaukee Brewers because of a sore right shoulder and likely will not play in the three-game series.
Cubs manager Lou Piniella said the team physician determined Soto has tendinitis in the shoulder and expects the reigning NL Rookie of the Year to be available in a few days.
“We’ll have to wait and see how he responds to the rehab and the medication,” Piniella said.
Piniella added if Soto has any setbacks, he’ll likely have to be put on the disabled list because Koyie Hill is the only other active catcher on the roster.
Soto hit .285 with 23 homers and 86 RBIs last season. He was hurt in Tuesday’s 3-2 10-inning loss to the Astros.
