Roenicke said pain kept him awake throughout Monday night. He called team doctors Tuesday and they took him to a hospital.
Roenicke was at the ballpark for the night game against the Chicago Cubs. He said for a while he thought there was a chance he wouldn't make it
``That's what I was worried about. If I stayed at the hotel I wouldn't have been,'' Roenicke said. ``I had to get in and get some medication, but I couldn't get up and walk.''
Despite back soreness, Roenicke was able to perform his daily functions until it got too painful after Milwaukee's 7-4 win Monday in the Cubs' home opener.
``It's been bothering me for a few days, but I could still throw, hit fungos, and just bad position in bed watching a movie, I couldn't move,'' he said.
Roenicke joined a number of his players with nagging injuries. Outfielder Ryan Braun is trying to play through neck spasms, shortstop Jean Segura just returned from a thigh injury and third baseman Aramis Ramirez is on the disabled list with a sprained left knee.
``I guess it's contagious,'' Roenicke said.
