WASHINGTON (AP) -Nationals right-hander Shawn Hill reached 91 mph while throwing five shutout innings Tuesday in a game at Class A Potomac, his latest step toward coming off the disabled list.
With Washington manager Manny Acta and assistant director of player development Mark Scialabba watching, Hill allowed four hits and had four strikeouts and one walk. Of his 69 pitches, 45 were strikes, the Nationals said.
General manager Jim Bowden said he and Acta planned to meet Wednesday to discuss Hill’s status.
The starter went on the 15-day DL during spring training because of pain in his right forearm.
Another player on the disabled list, outfielder Wily Mo Pena, played three innings at extended spring training in Florida. He went 0-for-1 with a strikeout, a walk and a run scored at the plate, and did not have any opportunities in left field.
Pena has been sidelined by a torn left side muscle.
