WASHINGTON (AP) -The Florida Marlins activated outfielder Jeremy Hermida off the 15-day disabled list after their 10-7 victory over the Washington Nationals on Monday night.
Hermida has been sidelined by a strained left hamstring.
“He’s healthy, he’s good to go, so he’ll be in the lineup” Wednesday, when the Marlins-Nationals series resumes after a day off, Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
The Marlins optioned outfielder Brett Carroll to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Before the game, Florida purchased the contract of right-hander Burke Badenhop from Double-A Carolina. Badenhop, who never has pitched in the majors, is in the bullpen for now but probably will move into the Marlins’ starting rotation.
“We’d like to get him an inning or two, get his feet wet, before we throw him in his first major league start,” Gonzalez said.
Badenhop replaced Rick VandenHurk on Florida’s roster. VandenHurk was optioned to Carolina on Sunday after he went only 2 1-3 innings in a loss to Pittsburgh. In two starts this season, VandenHurk is 0-1 with an 11.81 ERA over 5 1-3 innings.
Also Monday, Florida moved right-hander Harvey Garcia to the 60-day disabled list. He went on the 15-day DL last month, retroactive to March 21.
