CLEVELAND (AP) -The Cleveland Indians have placed utilityman Jamey Carroll on the 15-day disabled list with a broken left hand.
Carroll was hit by a pitch in Saturday’s exhibition game against Houston, and the team said he will undergo further examination in Baltimore. It will be the first time that Carroll has been placed on the DL.
Carroll batted .277 in his first season with Cleveland. He was the club’s primary second baseman for a five-week stretch when Asdrubal Cabrera was sent to the minors, and also played third base and in the outfield.
To replace him, the Indians purchased the contract of infielder Tony Graffanino from Triple-A Columbus.
