FRISCO, Texas (AP) -Texas Rangers closer Eric Gagne threw 15 pitches to three batters Friday while starting for the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders as part of his injury-rehab assignment.
Gagne struck out the Arkansas Travelers' Aaron Morrissey, retired Aaron Peel on a fly ball and walked Sean Rodriguez on a 3-2 pitch. He had been scheduled for 16 pitches, but manager Dave Anderson replaced Gagne with Brandon Puffer before Curtis Pride came to bat.
Gagne threw seven strikes and eight balls, with his fastest pitch clocked at 94 mph. He missed most of the last two seasons following elbow surgery in 2005.
``I'm getting pitches under my belt,'' Gagne said. ``I'm not where I was three years ago, but I'm getting better.''
Gagne is scheduled to pitch another inning in relief in Saturday's game.
