NEW YORK (AP) – A nonprofit set up to distribute donations from the New York Yankees to Bronx community groups is being sued by a lawyer who was the fund’s administrator.
Attorney Michael Drezin filed a lawsuit Tuesday accusing the chairman of the New Yankee Stadium Community Benefits Fund of a conflict of interest.
His main allegation is that the chairman, Serafin Mariel, deposited $800,000 of the fund’s money in a non-interest-bearing account at a bank Mariel co-founded. Drezin says the money could have gotten a better return elsewhere.
Drezin also claims that the nonprofit owes him $35,000.
Mariel did not answer the phone at his office Wednesday. His lawyer did not immediately return a phone call.
