SAN DIEGO, Calif. (AP) -The San Diego Padres have acquired right-handed reliever Edward Mujica from the Cleveland Indians.
General Manager Kevin Towers announced the deal Wednesday. The Indians will receive a player or cash for Mujica (MOO-he-kuh).
The 24-year-old Mujica split the 2008 season between Cleveland and Triple-A Buffalo. With the Indians, he was 3-2 with a 6.75 ERA and had 27 strikeouts in 33 appearances.
Mujica is 3-3 record with 6.04 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 53 relief outings for Cleveland (2006-08). He was signed by the Indians as a undrafted free agent on October 22, 2001.
Mujica is 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA in nine spring training appearances.
