KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) – The Atlanta Braves have outrighted outfielder Zoilo Almonte to Triple-A Gwinnett after he cleared waivers.
Because he had been outrighted previously, Almonte can opt for free agency. The Braves announced the move Tuesday night, shortly after beginning a spring game against Houston.
The 25-year-old Almonte is a former New York Yankees prospect who signed with the Braves after spending most of the 2014 season in the minors. He was expected to contend for a spot in left field but hit only .245 with four RBIs.
The Braves now have 35 players in their big league camp.
