KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) – The Atlanta Braves have optioned outfielder Eury Perez and two other players to Triple-A Gwinnett.
After being acquired off waivers from the New York Yankees, the speedy Perez was thought to have a shot at contending for playing time in center field. But even after an injury kept Melvin Upton Jr. out for all of spring training, the 24-year-old Perez didn’t do enough to earn a spot on the team.
Eric Young Jr. is expected to open the season in center.
The Braves also optioned a pair of young pitchers, left-hander Manny Banuelos and right-hander Williams Perez.
Atlanta now has 40 players in its major league camp.
