PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -Ichiro Suzuki thinks talking about the divisive and jealous clubhouse that helped lead to Seattle’s huge flop last season is just “silly.”
Fresh off a second World Baseball Classic title with Japan, Suzuki made his spring training debut with the Mariners on Thursday. He slapped a pair of singles and scored a run in a 10-9 win over Kansas City.
But when Suzuki was asked about the bickering and jealousy within the clubhouse that plagued Seattle’s 2008 season and has been mentioned this spring by players and coaches no longer with the Mariners, Suzuki said through a translator: “This is so silly that I hate to be wasting time with this kind of thing. I’m surprised at this.”
